LOL, so I have been planning my build for a while now and am FINALLY settling in on the configuration I think I want. So time to start slooooooowly ordering parts as the budget allows.

I notice that the longer I wait, the longer the list gets! What started as "get a cheap bike and mount a China Girl" became:

    - Get a cheap bike, scored a $25 Cranny of CL... check
    - Hmmm, needs a front brake, cheapo cantilever? Nah, brakes are important, let's go with a $70 Sturmey Archer XL-FD
    - If I have to pay my LBS to lace up the drum brake, I should probably get better wheels too since my cranny looks to have 14g spokes (my wife's is a new Panama Jack with much larger spokes, so assume hers are 12g?). Those Weinmann DH-39s look great, $70 for the pair? Sure!
    - While not necessary, wouldn't a black springer fork look nice with that new wheel and drum brake? They are not that expensive, just another $40...
    - And if I flip the bars, wouldn't a layback seat post really make for a nice fit? Of course it would... $30
    - Uh, I might actually want a motor... thinking the BGF RB80 kit on eBay might work out ok $180
    - Gotta upgrade the bolts... $10
    - Oh yeah, the forums tell me the stock plug wire and plug are junk, vintage looking wire with NGK B6HS from Pirate Cycles $15
    - And I really do want to protect the fancy shmancy new wheels and not use a rag joint, $60 MM adapter and 40T sprocket
    - Hmmm, hope the bike does not fall over from the extra weight. Let me change out the sidestand for a rear axle stand $20
    - Wow that stock gas tank does not appeal to me at all... let's see if this moped tank fits $45 (I actually have one on the way from a Concorde XKS that supposedly has a decent petcock)

And that is just for my "initial build", I also plan on eventually going to an RT carb, better seat, high compression head, expansion chamber, lights, white tires...

I was tempted to just get the motor first to have plenty of time to take it apart and go through it, but I *know* that I would not be able to resist just mounting it up. At very least I would want to upgrade the brakes first.

Out of that list, so far I have... the bike. LOL. The moped tank is one the way. I really need to stop planning this build out, I am going broke(r) and have not even done anything yet!!!

I will actually start a build thread when I get rolling, just wanted to share my plight, I am sure I am in good company ;)

If you buy all of that stuff, get a better bike too.

That was initially the plan, but even proposing a $200 Nirve B-1 was shot down by the "reasonable half" of the household, lol. I do keep an eye on CL every day, so should a good deal on a "quality" bike show up, anything that I get for this build I can transfer over.

My first mistake was ever wheeling in the $25 Cranny. If she never knew a cheap used bike was even an option... heehee

Nahhhhh still cheaper when you consider bail $$, lawyers $$, fines $$$ etc...this is a less expensive addiction.

Thanks! I used to be addicted to WoW and cigarettes, this is definitely better.

So if this is an addiction, and you sell parts to feed the addiction... hmmm... does that mean my first part is free? You know, just a little taste ;)

I think it's out of control when your working on the first one and you buy 4 more so you have something to do.

    Tell me about it!

I'm still working on getting my first CG running, and in the mean time, I bought a Worksman to make a BTR out of, and another old frame to make into a Rat Bike.

I also bought a few moped engines for those frames, and I just bought a 4 stroke friction drive kit today, and I don't even have a bike to put it on yet!

Yes, I do believe it's an addiction, and I blame all of you guys!

Whew, I feel so much better!

Today I picked up a $10 weed eater and a $15 Kent Super Scooter to turn into a friction drive setup to sell to help fund my bike project. Something tells me it will not actually end up in someone else's hands...

I am picking up a good condition Power Wheels Xtreme Machine (go kart) this weekend that was on CL for free (but needs a battery of course). The plan was to get a new SLA battery for it and repaint it to sell, but I have a sneaking suspicion that my son will latch onto that one and it will have to stay.

So my garage just got more crowded and I am no closer to actually getting my bike built. BUT, at least I am having fun :)

BTW, after spending some time cruising MopedArmy for a tank, I really want to say a huge "thank you" to y'all. The community here is so friendly and helpful, I really appreciate it. I am sure it is a culture thing, but the forums over there are just plain hostile. This is definitely a nice place to spend time.

It's could be a problem when the garage is full, the 6'x10' trailer is full and the trike you just bought yesterday is sitting on the bed of the camper you drive every day because there is no other place to put it and there are bits and pieces through the house.

Up there, in my avatar: I built that bike in the 6 x 10 shed behind it. (Not too many people know the meaning of the word "cramped" like I do.) There's a work bench in there too. And a hand-built bike jack. Numerous tools, big toolbox. If I sneeze in there, it ricochets and I have to duck. :)
