Mine is an old man's toy, or as some of the family says, "he's in his second childhood". I had one in 1959 to run around on the farm, today, I have another to run around on the same farm that my grandpa owned.

For you are pedals needed? Can pedals be locked in place?
No pedals needed if your bike can handle it.

My short and to the point post means, if it's a bicycle, and you put any size motor of your choice on it, modify it as much as you like, it's still a motorized bicycle.

Or, putting pedals on a Harley doesn't make it a motorized bicycle.

In Oklahoma, according to the state, if it's got pedals it is a bicycle. Makes it nice for riding without any problems. No pedal, it must be licensed and tagged like a motorcycle. Some small town authorities will argue. But it is the law.

That is the way for most states, got to have pedals or it's a motorcycle.......Curt

Illinois here, and the town I live in sanctions them into 3 categories: assisted bicycle, light motorcycle, and motorcycle

The defining factor is engine size, 49cc/ 3hp or equivalent electric motor for assisted bicycle. Light motorcycles include mopeds, motorbikes and electric scooters. And has and engine displacement range from 50cc to 250cc and lastly motorcycles are described as anything over 250cc displacement

For legal purposes, I ride a Power Assisted Bicycle. And I expect to fall in the same regulations as an ebike,
