hello, are there any good methods of making the stock throttle cable work with the keihin carb? with all the adjustments set long as possible the cable is still too short and the throttle is still open around 50-60 pecent in the carb.

Sometimes, all you can do is cut the tip off the cable, pull it out of the sleeve, cut the sleeve down to the correct size & solder a new tip onto the cable.

I would practice this several times on other cables first!!!

I think there's a thread on here somewhere detailing how to do it.

Good luck!

Can confirm I just did exactly what VMB explained in the first sentence of his reply to you in the above posting on both the throttle and clutch cables on my latest build. So simple a procedure it doesn't really need explaining in any greater detail.
Goes without saying it's necessary to start with an over-length cable rather than a too short one.
Just be sure to measure cable sleeve length twice before cutting to correct length. Then simply feed on the brass nipple, unwind and splay the last 1/4" of the cable, pull the nipple to the end of the cable, apply flux, and solder the nipple in place. Basic soldering doesn't get any easier than this.

sometimes a bit easier to just use a box cutter to trim 1/4 inch off the plastic stops in twist grip

Yeah was considering doing just that. I ended up removing the adjuster from the top of the carb and forcing the elbow all the way into the twist grip and just barely got it .
Cant wait to see if my newbish attempt at a port job helps or hurts compared to the last stock kit I built for my son .

Got that sorted out . Now this thing is running like shiz! Just to clarify , this is a gt7 kit with clone arrow reed and keihin carb . I very slightly ported the exhaust wider and polished it and cleaned out the slague from casting in the the intake and transfer ports and drilled out a window in the piston I got it together and started but it seems to be running lean .(got super hot really fast and has no power. It revs with clutch pulled but no power when engaged I started messing with the screw that ramps open the throttle in the carb to no avail. Is there a fuel mix screw in this carb? Any help adjusting this carb would be appreciated.
