How about the fuel filter that is part of the fuel valve where it screws into tank . does not take much to clog it up and yet let fuel leak through but not enough to keep it running .

Bummer about your mom and your cancer bud, my sincere condolences.

Checked everything and it still won't start...

After trying a bunch to start it there could very well be a puddle in the crankcase.
Just pull the plug and pedal it up the street and back with the clutch out and throttle off to blow it out.

As mentioned it could be timing or even a weak magnet, it is an old magnet after all.

Here is the link to the great magneto mystery

A bit out of date, but then again so is that engine ;-}

these things are simple & the problem will turn out to be some simple thing - keep looking

had one once that seemed baffling until I finally noticed that someone had turned the mag coil upside down & that threw timing off (that was when I did the thread about the temporary timing mark to fit on the motor)

HOW many times have I been fooled by a weak coil? Ya lay the plug on the head and It LOOKS like its getting OK spark. If you can get the bike going downhill at 25 or 30mph I bet it would start. But it wont stay running at low idle, BAD COIL, With just enough spark to fool the eye. Heck, ya tried everything else, What's left? for 10 or 11 bucks I think you'll have it running.
