Hello all.

With the price of the HF 2.5hp now at $64 until inventories last, there is no better time to get into motorized bikes.

My dilema is the following.

Which frame will this beast best fit in ? (I want an in frame installation).

Theses are all Walmart frames. (No I do not want to hear any rant about walmart, so if that is what the reply is going to be take it elsewhere please).

1. Genesis Onyx. I love this bike. Its 29", big wheels, aluminum frames and feels great for my 6.1' 225 frame. My only hesitation is the aluminum frame. If this was steel I would buy it on the spot.

2. Panama Jack. I love the look of this bike !. Steel frame. Feels OK.

3. Schwinn Clairmont. Nice "oldie" look. Steel frame. I took a tape measure and saw that the design of the main frame is identical to Panam Jack.

I am expecting to have to do a number of mods to these frames to make the HF 2.5HP.

I have a full up machine shop with Bridgeport mill, South Bend Lathe, metal saw, drill, TIG welding etc, so any machining or either iron, steel or aluminum welding is no issue.

Thank you for your input !

Keep in mind other resources as well. Yard sales, second-hand shops, Craigs list, newspaper, and more. I got my 1994 steel Mountain Tek Extreme frame and wheels for $100 from a second hand shop. The big triangle in front of the seat tube appealed to me. I assume you plan on removing the gas tank and muffler can. Go to:

affordablegokarts: Motor Plate for 79cc HF Engine

The middle of the screen shows a platform for the 79cc HF engine. That could save you lots of time engineering something that already exists.

Post photos as you go along; everyone likes photos of work in progress and finished rides. (I have to try later attaching a photo of my highly-modified ride with a HF 79cc engine. I don't have the magic touch today.)

Later!

Also look up a member named Dan. He is also from CT and has a 79cc HF engine on a frame. Look in the 4 Stroke section, a thread called 2.5 HP Performance (or something like that). I'm sure he will give you lots of good info.

(I will try the photo posting again later........)

I would go with the Onyx 29er, cuz I'm an aluminum frame kinda guy.....aluminum frames don't scare me :D

Here is a Trek with steel frame that we built for a friend using the HF 79cc......this bike rocks!

Thanks for the inputs folks !

Excellent stuff !

I have pretty much have good ideas from all the threads here regrdaing mounting, gearing, jackshafts, etc...

You folks have doen some amazing things on this board !

The Bike frame is what I am truly stuck with.

I think I am between the Schwinn and the Onyx.

I know the Schwinn will give me a solid peformer from some other build threads. I wish I could hear from someone who did a conversion with the Onyx.

If you can weld aluminum, go for the big one!

Strip the paint, weld some motor mounts and build the bike you want.

Get the hub adapter thing so's ya won't have the rag mount blues.

Shoot, with a Bridgeport mill he can make his own hub adapter...laff

The bike I built below is virtually the same bike as the Onyz but is a 26", not a 29er. It is made by the same manufacturer and all the welds on this aluminum frame are strong and beautiful.....I've got thousands of miles on 2 of these bikes with no probs.
