Schwinn Clairmont Cruiser Bike size question

GoldenMotor.com
I'm looking at the Clairmont for my next build. Does anyone know what size down tube this bike has?

I can't get it locally so I have to order it. I was hoping I could order the motor and bike at the same time, but need to know if I'll need the large mount.

If anyone has this bike, can they measure for me please?

I'm getting it from walmart.com. You can see the bike Here.

Howdy Rogue. Thats a good looking foundation for a MB! Ya got me all talked in to ordering one. As it is steel, I am thinking your gonna be OK on the downtube size. But dunno for sure. Some one will. The front fender is gonna fail. Not might, gonna happen and will drop us hard.

I got a Honda/G4 looking for a home. Thanks for posting. But that bike is screaming for some one to put a China girl on her. Please post lots of pics. Gonna be beautiful.

I fully intend to replace the mounting on the fenders before I take her for a spin.

Some nice flat steel for the body mount and replace the "rods" to the hub with 1/4 steel rod. By the time I'm done, you'll need a gun to knock it off.
I may have to see what has been done by others to get a good foundation for my mod.

I really love how you get the whole package for such a decent price. A standard (no gear) cruiser will cost you $90-150, (crappy) fenders $10-20, rack $15-25, not to mention a beach cruiser with gears? To build a comparable bike would be $115-195, not including the gear system.

And I love not having to modify a coaster brake. Brakes may not be the best, but I do have a front brake from the get go.

And shipping direct to my house was under $3, not bad.

I'm thinking about getting this bike for my first build. I'm thinking about getting a Grubee 48 or 66 cc engine to go with it. What do I need to know before starting this build? Will everything "fit" or will I need to mod anything? I'm just looking for a simple, cheap ride to get me 4 - 6 miles (and up a hill) to the beach (I weigh 240 lbs). I don't need great speed either, just a mellow ride. Thanks! :)

From my experience, as limited as it is. the motor should fit right on. You may consider getting a universal mount though, just to make it easier.

For me, I weigh 260 lbs and only have a 48cc with a 41t sprocket. It may be just my motor, but my bike is not suited for any hill climbing.

If your state allows it, I would get the 66/80cc or a larger rear sprocket at the cost of lower top speed..

I just checked and NC law says no more than 50cc for mopeds (and I'm assuming it's the same for motorized bikes). What is your top speed with the 41t sprocket? Any idea what it would be with a larger one? I really don't need more than 30 mph and probably don't need more than 20 mph. I'm only going to go maybe 4 - 6 miles one way and I won't be in a rush. Most of the roads are small town roads, or I may shut off the motor and just peddle. The only thing I really need the motor for is going up a 100' incline on a bridge.

My top speed is average 23 mph on flat roads, but I have seen 27mph on some roads with a tail wind. I have a friend in town that went from a 44t to a 58t. He lost about 1 mph but really gained his hill climbing ability.

In your situation, I would look for a high 50's tooth sprocket for a 48cc motor and that hill. 20mph is a very respectful speed on these bikes and you're not vibrating yourself to death like a 35mph bike will.

I would look into what others have done hill size wise. It also depend on what kind of incline you are talking about. Try seeing if there are any local riders in your area that can give you recommendations for sprocket size.

Any photos of your build so far? What motor did you go with? Any vendor recommendations? As far as I know, I'll be the first to build one of these locally. I live in a small beach / fishing community and just about everyone here drives a huge pick up truck. ;)

So far all I have is the bike set up. I'm ordering the motor tomorrow. I plan on doing the whole build in pictures so that should be up in about a week when I get the motor in. I'll have to make a post just so others can see how the clairmont build goes.

I've decided to go with a GRUBEE SkyHawk GT5 66cc/80cc Angle Fire Slant Head from gasbike. I'm convinced that most of these motors come from the same place in china anyway, so I went with the cheaper price that still had a warranty. I could probably save $20 if I bought from ebay. This will be my second build, but my first BGF motor worked just fine for me.

I'll probably put a bigger sprocket on it just to limit top speed once the motor is broke in. That will also give me a lot better climbing ability.

Pro's so far: Bike is comfortable as can be. Love the reach of the handle bars and the saddle is so far very comfortable.
Con's: Rack will need to be replaced. I'm sure it will work for light loads but I plan on mounting a spare gas tank back there for long trips and need the extra weight capacity. I thought it was the pipe style, but it is a flat tin/steel type. I already bent it flipping my bike over. Didn't notice until I had done it a few times too lol. As usual, I will need to replace the fender tabs as well.

Hill climbing ability is a lot more important to me than speed. Do you happen to know of gasbike.net carries 58t sprockets and will swap the out with the original? Also, do you happen to know what a "universal mount" looks like? I'm wondering how much easier it might make the build.

Universal mount looks like an exhaust clamp. There's a plate with 4 holes, two are for attaching to the motor mount, the other two are for the u-bolt.

As far as gasbike swapping out the original, I have no idea. You would be better off contacting them or trying to find a kit that comes with the bigger sprocket from the start.

As ducttapedgoat describes, that is one type of mount. The other which I personally don't like is the t style that you have to drill a hole through your frame for.

Ok, guess I better ask what type of universal mount it is before I order it then. I definitely don't want to drill into the tubes either.

What I've seen is generally the T style comes free with the kit, and the U style you have to order separate. I say generally because my RAW kit came with the U style, but I've seen Grubee kits come with T.

I agree as well. With my first BGF hit it had a flat plate that had holes for both the drill style and the ubolt mount. I bought a ubolt from the hardware store and just used the plate to mount it. never had a problem with it.

I think that the regular mount will fit this bike without the universal adapter though. LincolnMercury says the downtube is 1 1/2. What size is the mount that comes with the motor? I would measure mine, but I just sold it yesterday to buy this new bike.

Thought I'd pipe up since I'm putting one of these together this afternoon. I've got photos to post and the motor in hand as of yesterday afternoon. Just went with the grubee skyhawk Im a Mass Res so 49cc engine... Keeping everything pretty much stock to see how easily cheaply you can throw a good looking bike together. Schwinn gives it a sweet start with this bike in my opinion. I'm unsure about the wheels/ spokes set up and also the stock brakes but it looks like in LincolnMercury is riding with everything pretty much stock.

Here's an initial shot of the bike.

I unpacked the engine last night that I order from Bikeberry. Everything looks to be in order. Packed well and bubble wrapped. Minor surface scratches on the bottom of the tank and a couple on the muffler. I had ordered the flying horse model but getting the Grubee is fine (I think it actually was more expensive kit so thanks BB & forgive the cell phone photos here guys)

The engine looks good:

Everything unboxed:

And that's all for now. Bruins took over the night. So I'll keep things posted as I go along and wants to say thanks already to the other folks out here keeping this forum informative and friendly.i have a feeling the motor bicycling community is about to explode!

Hate to point this out nonservitus, but you stated Mass. had a 48cc limit. Your picture of the motor clearly says 66cc.

Might want to get rid of that sticker on the side lol.

On mine, I switched the shift grip to the left hand side because of the throttle on the right. Are you going to leave the shifter there or switch sides as well? My shifter still works great, the numbers are just upside down is all.
