Maxvision LIVES! How's it hanging Scotto? What'd you do about your living situation that changed about a year ago? You still working for HD at Balboa? Been LONG time since I've been here.

    San Diego...CHECK THIS OUT!

Yes, it's all gone now. I went by 2 days after I posted this thread and it was gone then...at least most of it. I did poke around in the weeds and found a good seat, some bearings, cool chromed springs that I'll find some use for and a LONG jack shaft w/ pillar bearings. Out by the dumpster...

    Anyone riding in san diego?

Hey Austin, Logged your email address. Now you got me a hankerin' to put a ride together! What part of town do you live? Asking cause the rides can start anywhere. And yes, the rides are usually 4 hours or so and always a stop for lunch at the turn-around. The gang did a Mai-Tai stop at a...

    Anyone riding in san diego?

Hey smallenginelover, I think the group rides kind of petered out. Had a few good rides over the years where a decent number of people showed up but there just doesn't seem to be enough people showing up to keep the rides going. I think the problem was that we never hit enough local saloons...

    Electrolytic Etching

I like the brass badge but... Well, the brass head badge looked nice all shined up but the brass dulls fast and then gets that patina which I wouldn't like. I tried clear brass lacquer but I didn't like that either (do I sound like the princess and the pea?). So, I pulled the transformer back...

    Electrolytic Etching

In the 9 years I spent as a jeweler I did a little messing around with the plating process. Tiodization - fancy name for oxidizing Titanium. Titanium - symbol on the periodic table of elements is Ti Anodizing - increases the thickness of the naturally occurring oxide coating on a metal...

    Electrolytic Etching

That exact same thought came to me today. Photocopiers use a toner and a heating element. But I don't think you'd get the detail out of a photocopier that you could from a laser printer.

    Electrolytic Etching

Yes, current and acid works fine. The acid will help to etch faster. And yes, etching IS just like nickel-plating. Still and Anode and Cathode in a solution, it's just that the finished product is connected to the positive instead of the negative. According to Ohm's Law, the amount of...

    Electrolytic Etching

Hey Scotto- You've heard of "Anodized Aluminum" right? Aluminum conducts electricity, it will electro etch just fine! If you don't have a transformer, muriatic acid will eat it away FAST so don't leave it in too long...

    Electrolytic Etching

I did some research after my post and yes it does have to be a laser printer. Before the paper comes out of a laser printer it passes a heating element that fuses the laser toner to the paper. Using an iron to transfer the printed pattern "melts" the toner which allows it to transfer off the...

    Electrolytic Etching

Well dayumn, wish I had read this post before I made my head badge. Instead of the laser printer method I had a sheet of vinyl stickers made. Used muriatic acid diluted with regular tap water in a plastic container. Attached the + from a battery charger set a 6V to the badge and the - from...
