Cool! Did you swap the fork? The old Schwinn Varsity I had (road bicycle with mustache bars) had a blade shaped road fork (27" wheels) that was pretty weak. I've seen a lot of people put BMX bars on the old schwinns and make townies or fixed-wheel bikes from them.
