Default large clutch gear removal

first....
is it common for all of the little BB sized bearings (3mm?) to fall out when you remove the large gear ring (over 50 of them)??

next...
I have bought chrome steel bearings to replace the old poor quality ones. I need to know where and how to put them in.

is there a manual available for this (or pictures/documentation)?

TIA

Use grease to hold them in place and you should see a circular grove that they rest in. The groove will be near the very centre

Gubba,

The ring that holds the ball bearings is supposed to be a tight press fit onto the hub. If it came apart that easily, you will likely need a new one. Did you use the puller tool that comes with some of the kits to pull the hub? Or did the gear just come off?

The CAD graphic below shows how it goes together.

thanks for the info Jim...
the gear was sloppy and i just 'walked' it off. looking at the CAD, i don't think i even removed the hub.
thanks for the pic, i get the idea now. i use MollyLube to keep the bearings on the hub (after i remove it) and press it back together, right??
now if i can figure out how and wwhen the keyway goes in.......lol

You need Norman
He is the only one that know of who successfully removed and replaced the 56 tiny bearings that you want to replace.

jim....
i got to thinking...(uh oh)...
the CAD that you provided must have come from a series of CAD's on the removal and reassmbly from startto finish. If so, these would be so helpful and i promis to share the info.
can do?

TIA

Spad I've had many of these apart and back together again.

Gubba, If the gear just walked off I doubt that the bearing race will press back onto the hub. You are probably going to need some new parts. The ball bearings are 2mm.

I have input the entire engine into my 3D design software program. I'm going to do a whole series of exploded views and put them on my website. Manic Mechanic

Gubba, correction!!!

Some of these engines do use 3mm bearings! I ordered several thousand 2mm bearings from miller and got back to the shop and realized that two of the engines I have here were set-up with 3's.

I hope I didn't cause any confusion.

that explains conflicting info, some saying 2mm and some saying 3mm.

now i need some instructions on replacement procedure..... then i guess i will find out which i have.... i just received 100 3mm from Boca Bearings.

is your webaite manicmechanic.com ???

any additional CAD's would be most welcome

I pulled the large clutch ring off my motor...I used the large side of the clutch removal tool and it came off as one sealed unit. Replaced it with a new (different) clutch ring.

I must admit that I was leary to pull the gear off having heard that there are numerous bearings but....success...very simple process, providing it comes off as one unit.
