Copper Exhaust gasket kit
Hey Guys,
I had the opportunity to buy some pure copper sheet this week that is the perfect thickness for an exhaust gasket.
They were cut on the Water-jet, annealed to a "dead soft" state, and burnished in a vibratory tumbler to remove all burrs.
The cut-out is closely port matched for a better exhaust flow.
I made one of these for the bike on my homepage just before Christmas. The bike has been ridden about 500 miles, and the exhaust pipe is still leak free...The bolts have not been re-tightened.
Copper expands at a different rate than the aluminum cylinder, and the steel header. As the connection gets hot a positive seal is maintained.
It comes with the correct hardware, and an allen whrench.
No cardboard, No High temp Silicone. Dead soft pure Copper is the ticket!
I put this product on a Miscellaneous page on my website.

Re: Copper Exhaust gasket kit
I just ordered a pair!! Thanks
Still wish I could use one of your manifolds Jim. Maybe on the chopper build. Or maybe I'll get one of your improved engines for that!

Hi Jim, do you think this would be reusable and still seal as good? I would think that you would at least have to maintain the same position of the gasket.

Thank you for your order. You gonna love'm.
Very few engine installations come out level enough to use a straight through intake. I just figured I would put it on the site for the few who could use it. Be sure and check out my up-coming chopper thread. I hope to be far enough along this week-end to start the thread and post some pics.
The chopper builds I'm doing are what prompted the new engines...

Re: Copper Exhaust gasket kit
Man, good stuff.
Im gonna buy one and a sprocket adapter once I can get a good measurement of my hub.
Aside from this one measurement, is the adapter universal?

Hi Marvin,
It's 3/32" thick dead soft Copper...Flatten it out with a block and 80 Grit paper and install again.

Bob,
I had forgotten that the spoke hubs also vary in diameter. I'm going to put up more info on my website soon. The sprocket bolt hole pattern also varies...I may have to increase the price a bit and supply the sprocket.

Re: Copper Exhaust gasket kit
Hey Jim,
Love your site but i have been waiting to see you get some sprocket mod's added to your site. I like the look of it and have been kinda checking it from time to time to see if you made any new ones ? And also on the sprocket issue what is the cost I dont see it on the site ?
About the copper gasket, sounds good in theory and Im sure they work great as advertised, but paper gaskets IMO opinion would be some what better due to there ease of use and availability . and copper seems a bit rigid although it is a soft metal to use as a gasketing material ? The one advantage is it would look very appealing on an engine, the contrast of colors that is.

Commander,
Thanks! Keep checking back as I'll probably be adding a lot of small items to the miscellaneous page.
I do not offer custom sprockets, there are other suppliers that offer many different tooth count sprockets. I made the one shown in the photos on my site in order to clear the wide tire, and coaster brake arm.
Annealed Copper is in fact a premium material for an exhaust gasket. They are expensive, as pure copper is expensive. The cylinder to header pipe connection gets quite hot. Copper will expand with heat. The benefit being that the connection will remain sealed as the copper expands with the rest of the assembly.
Paper does not expand with heat. In fact it shrinks when the moisture content decreases, which happens almost immediately.
This is not my theory.
Mr. Gasket offers annealed solid Copper exhaust manifold gaskets for a number of engines for a good reason. Although expensive, it is the best material. Mr. Gasket Chevy exhaust. If you do an exhaustive search, (I made a funny), you'll find that copper is recommended in 99% of the applications.
I tested this for our bikes by making a solid copper gasket for the bike I did at Christmas. The connection does not leak, it has been 3 months. Had I used the kit supplied gasket, the customer would have already been back to have it fixed. From experience, I would guess they would have been back after ride 2. The bike has over 500 miles on it. This is based on 10 tanks of fuel and the assumption that it's geting 110-120MPG.
