Default 2 stroke lawn mower engine

I think my next project may be a DIY frame mounted 2 stroke lanmower engine.
It was a bottom shaft, but I think if I make a manifold so the carb is upright, it should run on its side.
Has anyone here tried this?

If it's a two stroke, you can run it any way it will run.

Here's an idea- why not run it in the intended position, and use the vertical shaft to run on the side wall?

Nope, I have seen at least four different types/shapes of fins, not to mention all the other "differences".
