Default Ice; a thrill a minute...

Almost took my first fall today. Hit a patch of ice and darned near lost it.
I was turning at a corner in my neighborhood and the whole intersection was a skating rink. I tried using only the rear brakes, got slowed to walking speed and was making the corner when the front wheel went where I didn't want to go. Got my feet down and things under control but ended up about ten feet from the rear bumper of my neighbor's big Ford pickup. I think it outweighed me by about three tons. Don't think it would have given much if I'd hit it.
Scary. I think I'll hold off riding until the ice is gone. Supposed to be near 50 tomorow. Merry Christmas to all.
Tom

Glad to hear you didn't get too up close and personal with the bumper.

Merry Christmas!

Like anything the best way to not fall down is to practice a lot.

We used to ice race....once you get out there and really start to get into it, you forget about the cold.

Just don't build too big a fire on the lake...

Try a snipe on this set Innova Studded Ice Tires Pair 26 X 1.75 and 26 X 2.1 NR - eBay (item 180318028977 end time Jan-07-09 23:42:55 PST) Studded bike tires wear forever. Regular price for the Innova's is about $50. Nashbar has studded tires also. Peter White Cycles carries the Nokians. Schwalbe makes studs also.
