Default spyware

Anyone know of a free way of getting all of the junk off of my computer, like how and where to download some free spyware remover software or what to do?

Why don't you check out Major Geeks portal

MajorGeeks.com - Download Freeware and Shareware Computer Utilities.

I've used SpyBot and AdAware to get rid of spyware and adware that gets embeded deep into the registry of my computer. AVG antivirus (Free) is there too and with those (which are all free) you can keep your computer clean and fast running. That spyware and tracking stuff that gets into your computer can really slow you down.

What I'd suggest is that when you are prompted to quarantine or delete those cookies....delete them. They'll get back in your computer in time anyhow.....just delete them. (don't store them in your computer in quarantine)

Just keep those programs updated before you use them. (if you're on dial up....just set it up as all manual and nothing auto update....so you can update when you aren't doing anything or when going to bed etc so it will be updated when you get back)

But you can learn a lot at Major Geeks about what's new and gets great reviews from users.

Good Luck

if you go here Mandatory Steps Before Requesting Assistance Security Cleanup FAQ - dslreports.com and follow all those steps, your computer will be clean and you will have fewer problems in the future with mal-ware.

Spy Bot and Adware are really good ones and they are both free. snapfiles.com and freeware files.com are sites I use for all my free tools (majorgeeks too).

Another good (free) tool to have is Ccleaner, which cleans all the garbage off your pc like temp files, log files, MRUs, etc.

Also, there are some good (free) firewalls to be had as well and they will block stuff from getting in too.

You won't have to look to hard to find good free tools that will do all kinds of stuff for you.

eDJ, great link. I refurbish old PCs and donate them. Free programs very often work better then many high priced ones I have tried. Probably just personal choice, but I was going to advice exactly what eDJ did. There are many great programs but I have just always used those since "TechTV" told me too. (Way back in PC yrs) Also Zone alarm firewall rocks! Free as well.

Also disk cleanup and defraging helps with Windows OS

Every time I try to download spybot I get Spyware Doctor. What's that, is that the same thang as spyBot?
