Yet another chain thread.
My master link failed today. Naturally being a new first build I don't have any replacements yet although they are now on order. The problem I am seeing with the chain they use is that it is too heavy for bike shops to carry and too light for the motorcycle shops. I would like to pose a question to all of you machinist/engine builder types out there. Short of a total redesign of the engine would it be possible/feasible to convert over to a 420 chain? That seems to be the lightest that the local motorcycle shops carry. I suspect that it wouldn't be cost effective but the frustration factor is really high right now so I am looking for options. Thanks!

Re: Yet another chain thread.
Belt Bearing & Chain on 22nd & I-10 will have the #41 and chain link's. I have been all over Tucson and they are the only ones in town that I have found the #41.
Be sure to put your link on correctly

#415 BMX chain is the same as #41 chain.

Is your masterlink facing the right way?

Re: Yet another chain thread.
i use bmx chains on my motorized bicycles and they work fine. however i do away with the master link and use the tool to size the chain. http://motorbicycling.com/f30/motori...chain-344.html

I had set mine up so the open end of the keeper was facing backwards when the link was on top. I thought I had read that was the way to do it. Was I wrong?
Sadly Belt Bearing and Chain has hours that prevent me from ever getting there.

Re: Yet another chain thread.
#41 and #415 are close to the same. Same pitch but the width for the #41 is 1/4" wide, and the #415 slightly narrower at 3/16" wide.
I think the masterlink should put put on so that the closed end is facing the direction the chain rotates, so it cannot be driven off.

Re: Yet another chain thread.
Yes, you are correct. Both will work on our bikes, some have interchanged links between them. Don't do it if you are not a qualified shade tree cobbler.
