Is the square hole on a centrifugal clutch or on a adapter...

no clutch on the smaller homelites... you can get that off with a long socket and then you can do some stuff with it.

Take the spark plug out shove a rope in the plug hole to temp freeze the piston. leave some of the rope sticking out so that you cant remove it after you are finished.

some of the really old homelites you can't take the square adapter off. If it's not an antique though you should be able to take it off. Check out the site in my signature to see what I did after that.
PS. Welcome to the forum.

I would think some keystock with the other end potted into a shaft with silversolder and stabilized with a bearing plate mounted to the motor would work for you.. Maybe you could cheap off and pot it in JB Weld and put a couple holes in the shaft to keep it from spinning.

I tried several different things and they all kept breaking off. I ended up drilling out the hole and using a grade 8 bolt and have had no problems since.
