Default wet weather gear?

Hi,

I'd like to know, for those who commute on their MBs: what sort of wet weather gear do you recommend?

I've only just got my bike going, and as it happens I'm going on holidays for a month at the end of this week. When I get back it will be wet season here in Darwin. It won't be cold [it never gets cold here] but it will be wet pretty much through till March.

Any tips would be appreciated...

DONT KNOW ABOUT GEAR BUT ID HEAT SHRINK ALL ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS . INCLUDING WHERE SPARK PLUG ENTERS THE CDI. AND FILL THE SPARK PLUG BOOT WITH SOME DIOELECTRIC GREASE. THIS WILL AT LEAST MAKE IT MORE- RELIABLE IN THE WET CONDITIONS

I agree with Oscar, make sure EVERYTHING is sealed tight. Use RTV on your magneto cover gasket, and squeeze some RTV in the hole where the wires come out. Use "liquid electrical tape" on your electrical connections. put some RTV where the wires enter the cdi.

Also...FENDERS. I don't have fenders and seriously wish I do when I ride in the rain.

As for riding gear, I've ridden a few times in the rain so far.

What I wear:
waterproof pullover jacket (zips to my chin)
some slightly water resistant pants
long-sleeve shirt, preferably synthetic, long enough to be tucked in.
shoes
gloves (leather/acrylic combo)
Beanie
amber sunglasses

It works decently, but my legs still get soaked because my pants aren't completely waterproof, and my shoes get soaked as well. I bring along a spare pants, sandals, and underwear so I can change at work because I'll be all soggy.

What I want:
fenders.
1-piece waterproof jumpsuit. Kinda like a hazmat suit or something. My wife suggested a gore-tex suit.
shoes that don't suck up all the water.

Right now it's chilly when it rains, but not too bad. In a couple months I'll have to worry more about keeping warm as well as dry, seeing as it'll be snowing.

Hope that helps.

I have nylon over-pants and a goretex jacket. Both are pretty light but I still work up a heck of a sweat when I need to do heavy pedal assisting on the steep hills. On my feet I put a pair of NEOS over my shoes. I bought them for wearing over my business shoes on mud & snow days, but they work for rain days on the bike as well:
NEOS Overshoes All Season
