Default Anybody tried a chain driven generator?

Found a chain driven generator on EBay. Anybody tried it?

eBay

If the link doesn't work, go to eBay ? Sporting Goods, Golf clubs and fitness items on eBay.com. Find IT on eBay.. Search for generator under the "cycling" category and it will be listed by an international seller. Cheers

Your link did not work but I have heard that some of those bicycling generators don't last long. And I remember as kid I had a couple and they did not work very well.

But, I thought about using the racing alternators that we use in our race cars. That's as far as I have gotten is just thinking about them. They are pretty small.

if you use a car alternator it would also have to be low amp <30-35amps

I'd love to find a charging system for these little engines. For just running lights may only need 20 amps. Most on autos are for 60-100+ amps.and are heavy. Most small engines I've found have stators and rotors built in internally like motorscooters and motorcycles. I've looked for a small external alt. to chain drive to no avail. An automotive alternator also must spin a 2-3k rpm for peak output.
Any ideas?

I know a few of us are working on a solution. I'm doing it slowly, and I know Creative Engineering is as well, but I don't know what kind of progress he's made.

Here's an alternator for a 50cc MODEL AIRPLANE engine. If it's for a small battery like a power wheels battery you find at the Wal marts next to the bicycles that should do quite well!

Alternator / Generator on a 50cc Gas engine.

It's rather small enough that you can almost use a rubber band!
But it really should be enough maybe?
