Hello guys! Did shimano make full bikes?

Okay, so, I'd really like to motorize a bicycle, but i'm having trouble finding a nice one. But lo and behold, my uncle overseas decides "hey, have my bike for free, just pay shipping". However, my mother, aunt and uncle all insist that the bicycle is a shimano brand. Did they ever make full bikes? It was made in 1976.

I know for a fact that Shimano made a bmx bike in the late 70's or early 80's. I'll find a pic...

But they describe it as a road/commuter bike.
