Re: Coaster brake bypass
I would just get a free wheel hub.
You can't just remove the arm or parts from inside because it won't work properly after that.

Re: Coaster brake bypass
I replaced the coaster brake wheel with a mountain bike wheel i already had, so it cost me nothing and i put the crusier tire on it. It works great and all i had to do was put caliper brakes on the front fork and those were free too cause i had them laying around in my parts box.

Re: Coaster brake bypass
You could just remove the brake arm on the hub that attaches to your frame and take out the two curved metal piece inside the hub that expand outward when you backpedal.

That doesn't always work... Sometimes when you pedal forward, the sprocket won't engage.

I'm confident that my experience with coaster brake hubs doesn't compare to yours. Thus, I reject my reality and substitue yours...

Re: Coaster brake bypass
Sometimes you can just remove the shoes....but not the arm.
See, now I've added a third dimensional reality.

Re: Coaster brake bypass
I have done the 'remove brake shoes' deal, it worked
(I used that wheel for approx 8-900 miles till the bike frame cracked)
here is a video that tells the full free-coaster conversion
Coaster Conversion
hope that helps
