Default battery storage

I plan to ride my electro bike again but for now I'm involved with the gas bike. I have to baby the batteries through the winter so I rigged them up all together in a parallel circuit so that I can put the 12volt charger on them once a week or so to keep them up. I have been told not to let them drain in the cold weather since it would give me dead batteries.

Anybody else have electric bikes know anything about this.

My shop was once a photo studio so it has carpet but I have heard that as well. I don't have a lot of money in the batteries but they are practically new.

Keeping them cleaned off and filled with distilled water if they are that kind will help and a float charger is nice when not in use for long periods, which I don't have.
