Default oregon law questions???????

some of the stuff i have read on older threads state that you cannot register one of these bikes in oregon. this is straight out of the motorcycle and moped handbook the state puts out.

A moped must have an independent power source that is a power drive system
that functions directly or automatically and does not require clutching or shifting
by the operator after the system is engaged. A moped cannot be capable of
propelling the moped at speeds of more than 30 mph on level ground AND, if
the moped’s power source is a combustion engine, it cannot be larger than 50
cubic centimeters. Mopeds also include cycles designed as bicycles, if they are
equipped with a power source meeting the legal definition
.

has anybody tried registering one of these 49cc bikes as mopeds in oregon lately?
Thanks.

I'm not from Oregon, but it sounds as though the HT would definitely be legal as long as you added a CVT to it.

Even with a CVT, the plain jane motor only requires clutching to engage the "power drive system," and does not require clutching or shifting after the system is engaged.

i wouldnt worry about johnny law. if you really got pulled over, you think they would know how big the motor is by looking at it? just stick to side streets
