Default Wind resistance

Is it odd that my rides are extremely sensitive to the wind? I rode over to drop a DVD in the RedBox today, and zipped right over with a tailwind. With the headwind on the way back, I could barely get out of my own way. (I'm talking top speed, not acceleration.)

For the record, I'm running a stock RAW 50cc, 44 tooth, and I'm about 230 lbs, on a cruiser with really stupid bars that have me sitting up almost completely vertical. And it's about 20 F degrees.

Not to me. You are using a meager amount of power.
Doesn't the same thing happen while pedaling a bike?

I was really surprised how much a stiff headwind affects your riding. A tailwind is great but when you've got to come back home, it's an uphill battle for sure!

I've been coasting down some hills that typically I get some good speed from but when that wind is blowing the wrong way, it'll actually slow me down pretty good. To the point that I typically let the clutch out to gain a little speed.

an upright rider on a bicycle has about the same aerodynamics as a Mack truck.

here's a cool site to figure out your drag coefficient:Science of Cycling: Aerodynamics: page 1

Interesting fact: I mixed up some new fuel and refilled the tank. The bike goes so much better now. I can still feel a little difference riding into the wind, but not nearly as bad as the other day. (Winds around here maintain a pretty stable speed.)

These engines are so small that they change their behavior dramatically over every little variation.
