changing the gear ratio

I want to get my moped to go faster, but I am not sure how to do it. One idea that I had was to enable gear changing not dissimilar to a mountain bike. I do not know if this is possible or not, but if it is could someone tell me how to do it or point me to a post/thread or other site that explains how? Thanks
