Default issue starting a cold engine?

is it typical to have issues with a COLDISH engine starting? just purchased my friend 80cc premounted from him and I am noticing on 50-60 degree mornings it takes quite a few trys before the engine stays going, is this normal? is there a normal procedure to warming the engine before trying to start it 20 times only to have it sputter for 10 ft...

alright, they you very much. I'll have to give that a try, if it works out better it will be my new routine for "firing it up", where typical is the choke located on most 80CC kits? somewhere at the top of the engine or toward the back?
