Default NC Legality

Hello All,
I was wondering how many members live here in NC? And what sort of reaction you have had from law enforcement?
The only thing I can find online is the basic moped law which seems to require DOT approval. Is there such a thing as a DOT approved motor bicycle?
I don't think we have a "motor assisted bicycle" law...
TIA! Bill KU4QB

Outer Banks, NC

Law enforcement doesn't bother with motorbikes in most areas. The majority in my area are under 50 CC including a few scooters.

Wear a helmet, and stay under 50 CC and you will be good to go.

I own a lot of Whizzers but they are titled as motorcycles and have plates.

Have fun,
Quenton

Thanks guys!
That's about what I figured (there are a LOT of 150cc scooters around here, unregistered, and nobody bothers them but I like to be legal (less hassles)).
Quenton, where are you on the Outer Banks? I like to go camping in my popup and a MB friendly area would be nice. ;-}
Best Regards! Bill KU4QB
p.s. Is there such a thing as a DOT approved bicycle helmet? My 3/4 MC helmet seems to weigh as much as my bike.
