Default Sturmey-Archer 3 speed hub

Yesterday my son & I hit the local supply houses (yard & garage sales) picked up a pipeline seat for $.31, And just as we were about to give up there it was. a 1973 AMF Roadmaster (without a seat!) for $2!!! It has a Sturmey-Archer 3 speed rear hub. I know that it will hold up to a regular gas motor kit, but what about a shift kit? I would hate to blow up this high dallor classic.

In my experience, the sturmey can held up to 6 months or about 5,000 kilometers, before it broke, with a shift kit installed.
Regardless if it's left or wrong, the opposite is always right.

Caution: This hobby is habit forming.
