I wanted to shorten my throttle cable and needed something simple and cheap to do the job. I wanted to shorten it at the throttle end not the carby end. I chose a bicycle brake pinch bolt as it already has the hole for the cable, I drilled and tapped the centre for a 3mm grub screw, don't worry if it is not quite centered it will still work, leave the threaded section on for clamping in the vice for drilling. Grind down by holding the threaded section and rotating slowly against a dremel or grinder to get rid of the flange and lastly cut off the threaded section. I had to leave a little of the thread to get the right length. I did put loctite on the grub screw. Sorry about the quality of the pictures but my camera does not take good closeups. So there you go a solder-less cable end for less than a dollar!
