i clean the black stuff off my piston top before putting on my new lapped slanthead? Motor only has 50 miles at the most on it. And if i should what should i clean it off with so nothing gets in the shaft

set the piston to tdc (top dead center, or all the way up,) and use a green scotch brite pad and some carb cleaner to clean it.

don't worry too much about a little getting into the cylinder walls. it's soft dirt and will burn up right away without any damage.

What fuel to oil ratio are you using? If 16:1 that's too much oil and why you have so much gook on the piston. You shouldn't have to clean the piston if you use 24 or 32:1 oil ratio.

Yes i was using 16/1 but you advised against it so i thinned it out to 24/1 about hopefully it helps. I lapped my head today and going to try a spark plug gap of. 025 or so for it.. hopefully the compression wont be too high
