Hi,

Ive been having issues with my brand new 66cc engine kit from ebay. First I had an issue with not getting spark. After soldering new wires from the magneto to the cdi, I solved this problem. After trying to get it going again, I noticed fuel on the body of the engine. I then noticed that my cylinder wasnt seating on the crankcase fully and that fuel was spraying out of it and I was losing compression!

Also, when I had the cover to the drive chain off, this pin and bearing fell out. Does the bearing go in, then the pin?

I read something about having to file down part of the cylinder to get it to fit correctly?

I uploaded pictures to Imgur because I was having trouble with the forum photo uploader

The bearing goes in before the pin. You should put some good grease on both before putting them back in.

I'll let someone with more experience handle your cylinder to crank case question.

many ebay kits are delivered with the cylinder loose to avoid problems with EPA rules (they ship them as motor parts rather than motors)

you should be able to just put it together again & torque it down (be sure to have fiber gasket at bottom & aluminum gasket at top - piston & rings go in with the locating pins toward the intake side

From your photos I see no reason why the cylinder doesn't seat against the case. It does appear the gasket is damaged and I'd replace it. Are you torquing the head bolts?
We recommend 120 to 140 inch pounds. Tighten them in a 'cross patteren' switching from one corner to the other as you tighten.
I've never encountered this problem but possibly someone else has and will offer more suggestions.

And Slogger is right on with his advice. Lubricate the ball bearing and the pin (bucking bar) with bearing grease as well as the actuator cam that's in the sprocket cover.

In the last photo it looks like the gasket is torn in the upper left corner. Maybe the head bolts not torqued down properly? If you are using the stock acorn nuts for the cyl head you can saw or snip the caps off with a stout pair of angle cutters. The acorn nuts are usually too shallow to allow proper torquing of the cyl head.

Good point, Chaz. I neglected to mention the acorn nuts. They are notorious for causing head and base gasket problems.

I usually suggest replacing them with hex nuts. The acorns are pretty but trouble prone. But they do make great slingshot ammo.
