Well, look at how many cars are on the road, getting around 30 mpg, and with only 1 driver. Now, imagine that same person buzzing along and getting 150+ mpg on a motorized bike. Enuf people doing that and the fuel companies are gonna hurt. Also, $80/hr auto shops are gonna feel the squeeze if people can easily fix their 'wheels'.

Not sure about out west, but here in Ontario there's a $5k fine for driving a motor vehicle without insurance. Luckily motorized bicycles are still half human powered so it wouldn't stick if you fought it. We're still in a sub 50cc "Grey area" atm. (if you have a 66, just say its a 49) Wouldn't want to ride without pedals 'round here.
