Sounds like someone had a pretty well thought out plan. I'm surprised, though, that the gun shop didn't have measures in place to keep a vehicle from breaching the walls.

When I was a peace officer in Ohio, I re-qualified for my certs a few days early...and missed the time a bonehead tried to rob Stonewall Range.
A few off-duty metro cops were at the range for their re-certs and during a break while they set up the next test, the cops were out in the shop looking over the goods. A guy comes in, and apparently acted weird in some way for a while, then went to the counter with his hand in his coat and tried to rob the owner of the range. As I heard, as fast as he could blink he had the owner's piece in his face and about nine or ten police-issue S&Ws pointed at his back. It was uneventful after that; he surrendered without incident.
