What would happen if you used a clutch & pads for this:

It seems to me that is is easier to make 5 long pads rather than 15 small ones, but would the clutching forces cause the remaining separator bars to fail?

My only concern would be larger pads not wanting to float as easily or vibrating more. I would think that unless you have a super-modified motor, it would still be strong enough. I do like this idea, as I have been looking for better pucks, and it's a drag cutting 15 exact copies when I want to test material.

Perhaps this type of design would be better suited for those who use a centrifugal clutch, and the manual clutch is used only for the initial starting of the engine, and then left alone for the duration of the ride.

Theoretically, although miniscule, wherever there was a separator bar, that area is now more friction material so there would be additional clutch material surface contact for better grip.
