An alternative for stock Schwinn OCC forks??

I bought an occ recently for a rat build...it looks a few years old and has light rust on only the forks. I thought about repainting the forks the same color as I'm going to paint the bike but I like the chrome look. I don't want to go through the trouble to chrome the forks, and plus they seem to be a little flimsy. I've seen some nice chrome forks on some websites for chopper bikes and cruisers but would they fit? I know the stem is 1 1/8" on the occ, and some fresh chrome forks would look nice on the build. If anyone has done a swap like this can i have a few pointers??? Thanks ~Josh
