Hi all, I just built my first bike and have made quite a few modifications. To start, its a regular Chinese girl with hd lightning coil, sbp expansion chamber, puch 70cc head, ported cylinder, and dellorto 16.16 carburetor running on 100 octane fuel all stuffed into a walmart 29'er genesis. Believe it or not I ride this bike to work everyday thats about a 10 mile round trip and even though I love this bike I'm scared of something going wrong because of the cheap construction quality of the bike and motor. Im thinking about building another bike with a sturdy steel frame then throwing in a 4 stroke of some kind. I want to throw in a racing engine like whats in a dirt kart or similar. I saw a briggs and stratton animal engine the other day at my small engine repair shop and thought it looked the part of what I want. I still want a fast bike (30-35 cruising and 40+ top speed) but I would also like to be able to fill up with pump gas and have an engine i know won't leave me pedaling to work. What is a good engine to start that will fill that role and how can i make it work(i.e. mounting, gear reduction, and so forth)? Sincerely, Cole

One really good 4 stroke that's surprisingly reliable and powerful is the 212cc Predator engines sold at Harbor Freight. These engines are a steal at just around $100, they put out about 6.5 Hp and there's a huge aftermarket for performance parts for these. There are members in here that have built these up well past 20Hp in full race trim which bumps the price to a little over a grand, but you'd have a bicycle that can do about 70+ if you really wanted to go that fast.
Realistically speaking tho, a stock Predator 212 and run it with a Comet type CVT and you'll be easily cruising it at over 40 mph.
Look up Scotto- or Deonsrace in hereand see their posts... Scotto- has a few of these built and races them and Deonsrace is almost done building his right now. You can also search "predator 212" and should be able to find plenty enough posts on this engine/bike combo.

The brigs animal is a sweet motor but at what cost man lol you can get a 212 preddy for 99$ and pull the govener gear off the crank and swap to an aluminum flywheel and run 26lb valve springs and 1.2:1 ratio rocker arms and rejet the nice stock carb add an air filter adapter and have yourself a full auto ripping fast and insanely powerfull 212cc motor for the cost of a STOCK brigs animal !!!!!!!!!!! With those mods a preddy can expect to push 9+hp and rev up to 7500rpm on 26lb springs and with a cheeta or a noram auto clutch or even a torque averter you will not be beat by anything with pedals ever again !!!!!

Even though i build a lot of china girls latley ... The honda gx series motors and there clones are my specialty .... And i am a valve train specialist !! Even own my own homda gx spacific wayland valve cutting kit with 5 differant angled cutters and a 5.5mm and 6.5mm valve guide reamers
Trust me when i say that you can make a preddy do anything you want it to !!

The brigs animal is virtualy the wxact same designe type as the honda gx and clones .. Over head valve cam on the crank.... It just cost 6x more than a preddy 212 cause you pay for the name

No problem... and Roger's right about the power just with a few minor and inexpensive mods... and 8 to 10hp on a bicycle will feel really strong because they're so lightweight...

I might just have to do one of these Preddy builds myself, I may end hitting you up on where to get parts etc for these later on...

I have a spare gx 160 head with a old style14cc chamber but its gutted and needs valve guids and seats ... If you do a build its a sweet head to use for higher comp without any millwork just press in some bronze guides and new seats
