That is a nicely engineered product adding minimum weight for sure. There have been several builds over at the Sphere that were similar using R/C brushless motors. While not as nicely engineered/finished they were none the less as lightweight and easily attached.

Being an old Friction Drive guy I can say from experience that the aggressive grit roller will drive well even in the wet but has a healthy appetite for tires in the dry.
