George, you'll get many opinions on break-in fuel/oil ratios. It has been discussed a lot here. Your 24:1 mix will be just fine as well as if you go down to 32:1. You'll need to decide what works best for you. It's good that you're not doing the kit recommended 16:1. It is generally felt that it is too much oil and offers no benefits.

Glad things are working for you. Let us know if you need further help.

Have fun and please, ride safe.

George, Don't feel "dumb".
Nobody is going to laugh at you about that. There isn't one of us who hasn't made the same kind of mistake at one time or another.

If it makes you feel any better I've seen photos of the carburetor installed upside down and the problem was described as "a fuel leak" :)

Glad to hear you got it sorted out, Tirebiter.

If someone started a confession box thread of "dumb" mistakes, it would likely be one of the longest in the entire forum. We've all done it. You should have seen me pedalling for five minutes huffing and puffing. Finally pulled over to check again because of hard starting issues and noticed I had not put the plug cap back on after fiddling with the plug. D'oh
