So use an 18" rim. If you used a 26" rear wheel with a 24" rim for a sheave then the 18" rim/20" wheel combo should be spot-on. 24"-26"=2"~18"-20"=2".

I agree; too bad cuz 16" rims are easier to come by. Still, weight
and engine are yet to be factored into the equation. A fairly light
rider who enjoys going fast more than this old man could still do
okay even with a 35cc honda GX35. A Tanaka PF 4000 would be
scary fast.

Yes it would. Which is why I want to put one on my newest build(obsession). The pf-4000 is soooooo expensive though.....
thanks for all the ideas, I'm a few years off from trying anything. We just bought our dream house and we are going to be a little cash poor for a while. I'm running a cheap friction drive on a 26 inch at the moment but I am going to move it to a folding bike because even when not folded it takes up less room.
