maybe they want to be closer to where all their parts are made.

Milwaukee's already lost all the great things they were famous for. Blatz, Schlitz, Pabst, even Old Milwaukee's not brewed there anymore.

all the great things have moved away. including me. i left in 1979...

up north now
Harley already has a lot of stuff made in China on their bikes, and they are just like most all of corporate America, going where they can save $$$$ and who cares what the end product is.

The problem with a corporation having things made in china is once they get the technolgy they will be making Harley clone motorcycle and Harley well done. Happened to furniture in the south, And textiles as well.

When I worked at a Harley dealership, I saw "factory" parts made in Germany, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Canda, Mexico, and others I can't recall.
For years now Harley has pretty much been assembled in U.S.A., with major cast and welded components made in U.S.A.

bairdco hit the nail on the head really, Harley has been seriously considering opening up another full complement manufacturing plant in a European country for years. Sorta like moving the kitchen closer to the dining room. Sales in the U.S.A. are only a small portion of their global sales. It now sounds like that idea will soon become a reality.
Only time will tell....

The only part made in WI is the motors. Assembly take place in York, PA and Kansas City, MO. I think they were just threatening because union negotiations were in full swing. They just built a multi million dollar museum there. I believe they still own the MV Augusta factory in Italy. Maybe they will move there? It would have to improve their bikes!

The union at Harley in York Pa accepted a deal that will keep them here for a while. I'm not sure if it is 3 or 5 year but it is for a long time as far as union agreements go. The company I work for does jobs for them so I get out to the plant several times a year. This is what I was told by the employees.
