i have never used that particular bike.
but, even if the bar is too wide, you could just shorten the studs and use some galvanized strap around the bar. then paint it to match the rest of the bike.

cheap, effective, and easy...
i have one of my tanks on that way, and a muffler mount.

Snip the studs off and use 3m windo-weld. You can buy it at most parts stores off the shelf. It's window adhesive, and it holds pretty well. Ever try kicking a windshield out?

Just make sure both surfaces are completely clean of any dirt or oil.

possibly, there are the tektro compound brakes and some clones of those that stop very well, but old-school calipers often don't give enough stopping power on these if the motor runs really good

I usually start with a cruiser that has two, good, cantilever handbrakes
