Pulled the head today to have a look to see how things were breaking in, I found an interesting burn pattern I assume is caused by bad indexing of the spark plug, As can be seen in the pics the plug is indexed to the left of the cylinder, which is where the black carbon is on the top of the piston, the right side of the piston has no carbon at all. This is on a slant head and as can also be seen the plug is waay back inside the plug hole, I intend to mill the top of the head ( where the plug seats ) to bring the plug down into the chamber more and index the plug at the same time.
If I remember correctly the gap of the plug should be facing the intake manifold so both transfer ports are exposed to direct spark, Is this correct? or does the swirl in the chamber cause something else to happen? I am slightly confused on this.
I also feel lowering the plug by milling will up the compression slightly. there isnt enough room to run a long reach plug.
Any Insights, theories ?
