though i would say you might want to pull the head & see how the inside of the jug & head look.

I'm guessing your needle bearing on the wrist pin went out. Happened to 2 of my engines, ruined them both I had to get new ones they were completely trashed.

How's your chain tension and alignment? If the chain is too loose it might be bunching up on the engine drive sprocket and engine case. Don't start disassembling the engine until you check the simple things first.

oh yea 2door is probably right. that use to happen to me all the time & i forgot about it. since i don't use an idler pulley now, there is no slack to get caught up.
