Pull the intake and exhaust off. Check for rust, debris, rodents, etc. More than likely there is rust all over the valves and moving it shook it loose. that's the way it was when I cleaned up a tiller that was sitting outside for ten years. I ended up cleaning everything real good, lapping the valves, and throwing new gaskets on it. Ran like a champ after that. It's still going today.
