Hi all, I am building a bike on a sky hawk frame. I bought a rear rim which measures 26x1.75. Will a 26x2.125 tire on that rim be too much and rub on the motor chain? Do you think a 26x1.95 or smaller is a better choice? Thanks
In my experience, the 26x2.125 tires I have are about the same width as the 26x1.95 tires when use on the narrower aluminum rims, however the 26x1.95 tires seem to have plenty of chain clearance when used on either the narrower or the wider type rims, if you are using a coaster hub on the rear you can normally use a sprocket adapter and sprocket made for the adapter like this http://www.piratecycles1.com/cb110adapter.html and you will be able to align the chain so that it has plenty of clearance from the 26x2.125 tire even if it is mounted on the wider rim like comes on the huffy Cranbrook bikes and such.Hi all, I am building a bike on a sky hawk frame. The wide rim with the 26x2.125 tire and with a rag joint( stock sprcoket coupler ) may leave very little room between tire and chain, may even rub a little, I have used the wide 26x2.125 tires on the narrower aluminum multi speed wheels with great results, no clearance issues.... if you have the wide steel heavy spoked cruiser wheels, they spread the 26x2.125 tires out a bit more and make them wider at the side walls. the norrower wheel tend to rein them in just enough to allow them to work without issue when using the stock sprocket mounting set up.Front rim is 26x1.5, back rim is 26x1.75. If i buy a pair of 26x2.125 tires, will there be clearance issues? I can't find 26x1.95 in the brick pattern that I like
Ill bet you'll be just fine then.Just picked up a pair of 26x2.0 tires online, hopefully they will be ok. And yes I do run a stock rag joint
