my 99 (approx 2100 miles) now needs to idle for about a min @ half/choke before she will stay idling @ no/choke,
should I attribute this to the exteme (110+) temps, turn the idle up, or should I take the carb apart ?

I opened the idle jet on the HF 79 to eliminate just such a problem.
I used the smallest oxy/acet tip cleaner as a file in and out of the tiny jet to make it a bit bigger. Being careful to not drive the little cleaner into my finger as I held the jet.

A lot of my small engines and tractors get this symptom every few years. It's from crud building up in the small orfices of the idle and main jets.
A quick remedy that almost always works for me, is to count the turns and close the needle jets completely against their seats, then open them back to the original position. This usualy knocks the crud film loose and cures the problem without having to dismantle and clean the carb. Then I usualy run the engine at high rpm and choke it hard a few times to help suck the debris on thru.
