I am putting together my first MB. While seaching for help on the throttle, I have read a number of post saying don't connect the kill switch as it will burn out part of the engine. They recommend using the choke or clutch to turn the engine off. Is this correct?

Myth! There have been some reported problems with kill switches that have malfunctioned but they DO NOT burn out the ignition system. They are designed as an easily accesable safety feature giving you the means by which to shut off the engine in the event of a throttle problem. If wired correctly they will not compromise the electrical system of your engine. The problems most common are switches that stay made (closed contacts) when they should be open. If the switch is bad, repair or replace it. The chances are you'll never have a throttle malfunction but if it ever happens you'll be glad you have a way to quickly shut down the engine without fumbling between your legs for a choke lever.
