Motoped headset options (w/ pic)

Hello everyone...I have been building a motoped but I am stumped at this problem. I recieved the kit but the headtube diameter is massive. Larger than anything I have ever seen. Can anyone link me to a product that will fit it?

1.5 looks too small!

You need to know what size steerer tube your fork has before selecting a headset. And you're correct the headtube on the Motoped is quite a bit larger than 1-1/2". It's 1-15/16" or 49.6mm which is the std cup outer diameter when referencing a 1-1/2" threadless headset. Threadless headset sizing can be confusing. It stumped me too when I started building my first Motoped kit. Scroll down to the Threadless Headsets/Steerers chart at this link to see what I mean; http://www.sheldonbrown.com/cribsheet-headsets.html

The reason Motoped specs call for a reducer headset is because the forks on their bikes have a 1-1/8 outer diameter steerer tube (see chart). Once you know the size of the steerer tube on your forks you can figure out what size headset to get. If you still have questions your local bike shop should be able to help you out. If not get ahold of Justin at Pirate Cycles and he'll fix you up.http://www.piratecycles1.com/mobuuppapa.html

Hope this helps. ~Barnfresh
