Dear Kioshk,

I just wanted to remind you that when breaking in a new jug, piston, and set of rings, that you must be patient with your engine’s crappy performance whilst the rings and cylinder get comfortable with each other. You mustn’t be too hasty in adjusting carb-jets, needles, and fuel-mixtures; these parameter tweaks can only make a frustrating but normal condition MUCH worse. Your last upper lasted for over 2000-miles, right? Your engine ran superbly, didn’t it? Maybe that’s why the low-performance of the new upper was that much more disappointing this time around. You assumed that one 0.66 gallon tankful would be enough to properly wear in those rings. You were WRONG...it took FOUR tankfuls. You CAN’T force the pedals of a rose opened, silly. You must tend to its needs patiently and await its blossoming. So, after two-weeks’ aggravation, your performance suddenly, and predictably blasted-off, right? You’re back to being happy again, aren’t you? Don’t you feel foolish with all the useless fumbling and diagnosing you did when all the while you just needed patience?

Don’t forget this next time, stupid!

Love,
You.
