There are two adjustments in the cable to remove the slack, One is on top of the carb where the cable enters, and one is on the throttle handle where the cable exits the housing. Simply screw one (or both if needed) open until the slack is gone. Don't overdo it or your throttle will hang open and make the engine race.

Did you drill a hole in your handlebar for the throttle grip?
It's best if you install the carburetor and twist grip throttle and adjust the cable tension before drilling the bars for the locator pin in the throttle assembly. If the throttle is rotated too far foward it will allow extra slack in the cable that you'll need to adjust for by the method suggested above by maniac57. You could also drill another hole with the throttle rotated more toward you.
