Well, OK...
I fit that description.

Beavis has decided he needed my Snap-on Timing lite more than he thought I did, so it's gone... but as you say, I was always one for 'power tuning' as opposed to setting up precisely by the marks... s'pose I was always working on some old dog, or other...
Set the timing to the light, fire it off and see how it accelerated coming off idle... take it for a speed run and back it off until there was no pinging in the scramble for speed.

I can't say I was ever in the winner's circle, but my motors always lasted a long time, and performed well enough.

...gosh! I'd at least like to be able to adjust the timing, though!
