for all you guys talking generators i made my own solution

i got a free harbor frieght flashlight took the end out where the leds are they arepressed in.. got a laptop round battery inserted it into the light like a regular battery the led part you have to have almost stick out all the way.. so what i did was hot glue the end back in and it works like a regular flashlight.. will run for 20 hours or more since the battery is 4000 mah..

here are some pics.. also youll have to add some soilder to the ends of the battery.. as you can see it looks stock.. all i did was use black electrical tape on the end with the hot glue and used a hose clamp with and old bike reflector clip and mounted it to the ape hangers i have.. its as bright as the sun with only 7 led..

tell me what you guys think.. it was an apiphiny i had while on the john haha i said hmm i have a laptop battery and a free light till i can get my generator set up hmmmmm lol

i forgot to mention theres a ring a metal ring just soilder it to the outter part of the circut board this is the ground to the case of the flashlight they push it in till it lights up and glue

take into account you will need a lipo charger to charge and lipos dont like to go below 2 volts fully charged is 4 but if you have like me a 4000 mah one it might last a super long time just charge it once a month if you ride alot. if you go below 2 volts aidos battery and it wont ever work again... to get these take apart a laptop battery pack there are useually 10 of them see if it has 4 volts or3 or 2 and throw a charge if it holds over night your good to go;

is the one your useing off a old fan motor or something?

i have an old one 120volt has nice windings and a 1 amp fuse inside i was thinking of useing it just cut it to a round shape to clear. the magnet

but i wasnt sure if it would actually produce anything seeing how its wound for a small house fan...

then i decided to do the little mini light instead of this but its only temp till i can figure out how to do this... i do also have a rectifier from a power supply to give me dc now all i need is a charge unit to charge a batter or just wire up to a light from the magneto.. my ? is do you think i shoul dleave the stock windings alone and test it out? no harm no foul i guess

I just installed a tachometer and so was able to do some quantitative testing of my alternator using my Fluke 87 multimeter. I've attached a graph of the results. Output varies from 2 to 8 watts to a 10 watt LED headlight. This is after trying various tweaks so I think this is the maximum output for this unit. The LED headlight is quite bright! I also have 10 units almost ready for testers.

Thanks, I don't think I would've done it if I didn't like tinkering so much. I like the experimenting part more than trying to produce units to sell. Hopefully there's enough demand to make it all worthwhile.

Working on coating my batch of generator coils with enamel.
